Better informing to encourage best practices
At Nona Source, we are convinced that every sourcing decision can play a key role in reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry.
Promoting responsible creation is part of our core values. In a spirit of traceability and in response to the French government's environmental labeling initiative, we have partnered with La Belle Empreinte to help Nona Source develop its system for providing information on the environmental impact of its materials.

La Belle Empreinte
La Belle Empreinte is an organization recognized for its expertise in the environmental and social analysis of products and services. Their mission is to support companies in adopting impact measurement tools, helping them communicate autonomously about their traceability as well as their ecological and social impact. On the consumer side, La Belle Empreinte supports responsible actors to help them distinguish between genuine best practices and greenwashing.
La Belle Empreinte is certified by the Association for Low Carbon Transition (ABC) and collaborates with organizations such as ADEME to promote environmentally responsible practices and support environmental product labeling.
An analysis based on Key Impact Factors
As part of this collaboration, several criteria are taken into account to assess our impact.
Environmental parameters: transportation, blue water usage, and energy consumption based on the energy mix of producing countries. Nona Source and La Belle Empreinte also focus their analysis on water consumption, as the fashion industry uses millions of liters of water every year to produce garments. Additionally, carbon emissions are a key factor, as transportation represents Nona Source’s only CO₂ impact—limited to the journey between luxury houses' warehouses and our own storage facility.
Material origin: the country where weaving or knitting took place, as well as the finishing processes applied.
A social indicator: if the production is Europe-based, to evaluate the impact according to social and environmental regulations.
Deadstock VS New production?
La Belle Empreinte has developed a specific methodology, incorporating these elements to establish an impact indicator for each product.
This approach allows us to compare the carbon footprint (expressed in kg of CO₂) of a Nona Source fabric—sourced from deadstock—to that of an equivalent newly produced fabric.
Each fabric is evaluated based on its carbon footprint (kg of CO₂) and compared to a reference product, automatically generated by La Belle Empreinte’s algorithm. This reference is defined by:
Similar function: same material, weight, and purpose (e.g., warmth or coverage).
Standard industry production: weaving/knitting methods and finishing processes commonly used in the market.
Realistic manufacturing conditions: production modeled on major textile-producing countries, reflecting typical energy use and importation (96% of comparable products sold in France are imported).
This methodology ensures clarity and transparency, helping our customers better understand the impact of their fabric choices. By providing a clear comparison, we empower brands to make more responsible sourcing decisions, reducing waste and minimizing their impact.
